The Karma Club Soundtrack

I have to put a post together, and I really don't want to, because I finally got my hands on a copy of Odd and The Frost Giants and I would much rather be curled up in a corner of my comfy couch, reading. But no. I skipped out on my posting responsibilities a couple of weeks ago and it's much too soon to do that again. Even for a book I've been wanting to read for months.
The Karma Club
Sometimes life is not fair. At least, that's what I keep telling my kids. They roll their eyes at me, just like you are doing now. Oh, don't pretend you aren't. I know you are. Give us a blog post! That's what you're thinking. I know these things.

I am also rather tired and a little punchy. It's been a long day.

So! Getting back on track - one of the newest additions to my wishlist / To Be Read pile is The Karma Club, by Jessica Brody. It's about three teenage girls who decide to assist the universe in balancing karma. Unfortunately, as the tagline says, "When you mess with Karma, Karma messes back..." (Great book trailer, by the way. That, more than anything, is what got me excited to read this book.)

The Karma Club (Original Book Soundtrack)The reason I'm writing about The Karma Club when I haven't yet read it, is that it's another book (like Book of Lies) that comes with its own soundtrack. The soundtrack came out just before Christmas. There are 10 songs, four of which were written specifically for this soundtrack. Jessica Brody wrote on her website, "I wanted to create an entire book soundtrack with songs that you could listen to while you read and that contributed perfectly to scene you were reading. I thought, if movies can have soundtracks, why not books?"

You can listen to the songs on Jessica Brody's soundtrack page. Personally, the music is nice enough, but nothing on there really grabbed me. If you go listen to them, come back and let us know what you think! Better yet, if you've had a chance to read the book, how well do you think the music fits it?

I am wondering what the next book soundtrack will be. I think this is a very interesting trend, and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes. What do you think? Would you be willing to buy a soundtrack to go with the latest book on your TBR pile? Or do you think it would be a waste of money?

I have to be honest, I never thought of a soundtrack to go with a book before, but now that I think about it, I might if I loved the book & the music was good enough! (Did High Fidelity have a soundtrack after it came out as a movie? And -shh don't tell- I still love the Pretty In Pink soundtrack - what if that had been a book instead of a movie? I might have bought it.) Hmmm - food for thought!

There is a High Fidelity soundtrack, actually, and I understand it got fairly good reviews. I hadn't thought about it, until you mentioned it. Now I'm going to have to go listen it, I think! :)
