Friday Wish-List: Ella Enchanted

Ella EnchantedElla Enchanted by Gail Levine has been on my 'to read' list for years.

Well, I mean, I'd never even heard of it until the movie came out, but once I'd seen the movie I knew I had to read the book (better perspective).

One catch.... I can't find it. There was this one time at the very beginning of my search where I nearly bought a copy but decided to wait. The next time I went into that bookstore it was gone.

I've never seen a copy since, not at the library and not at any bookstore, so I finally gave up.

Now, several years later, my daughter has decided she wants to read it. Except, guess what?

I can't find it!

Ella Enchanted (Widescreen Edition)The library says it has it, but then it's not there (common problem at my library). The Barnes & Noble--that I had to drive an hour to get to--didn't have it either.

It's frustrating, and makes me have to resort to buying it online. Which seems to take all the fun out of book shopping.

So what's Ella Enchanted about?

"At birth, Ella of Frell was visited by the well-meaning but misguided fairy Lucinda, who gave her the magical "gift" of obedience. This "gift" forces Ella to obey any order given her, no matter how terrible the order or how hard she tries to refuse. After an incident with a friend when Ella was a young girl, her mother, Lady Eleanor, orders her not to tell anyone about the curse for fear it could be used against her." --Wikipedia

It's right up my alley of enjoyment.

Well, it would be, I'm sure, if I could find it!

Oh I really hope you can find a copy, because while the movie is good, it doesn't do the story justice. (The storyline is also considerably different.) I bought mine a few years ago at Waldenbooks. I don't know if Borders still carries it though.

Should have looked first. Yes, Borders has it. I'd go for the three book set, giving you The Two Princesses of Bamarre and Fairest with it or go for the nice hardcover near the bottom of the listing. (But then I'm biased against the newer covers. I prefer the old picture with the seal on it.)
