Friday Wish-List

As if there weren't enough things to do in my life, I (cannwin) decided that I wanted to add another weekly topic to the Literary Soundtrack.

The Friday Wish-List will be a place to discuss the books we, the avid (not average) reader, want to read.

Now I know I'm not the only person out there who spends time compiling lists. I also know I'm not the only one out their who has in their possession a list--or two, or three--of books. Lets dust off our lists people! That's right pull them off your refrigerators, out of your wallets, or out of your pants pockets. It's time to see if those books are really worth the reading.

First book on my 'Wish-List' is:

The Lace Reader

Brunonia Barry's official synopsis intrigued me:

Towner Whitney, the self-confessed unreliable narrator of The Lace Reader, hails from a family of Salem women who can read the future in the patterns in lace, and who have guarded a history of secrets going back generations, but the disappearance of two women brings Towner home to Salem and the truth about the death of her twin sister to light.

That's really all I need. One interesting bit about a book and I'm pretty hooked. Sometimes, though I'll actually go find a snippet from the book and read.

"My name is Towner Whitney. No, that's not exactly true. My real first name is Sophya. Never believe me. I lie all the time.

I am a crazy woman, . . . That last part is true.

My little brother, Beezer, who is kinder than I, says the craziness is genetic. We're from five generations of crazy, he says, as if it's a badge he's proud to wear, though he admits that I may have taken it to a new level."

Or perhaps I'll find some reviews, say in, perhaps, the NY Times.

"For as long as Barry can keep her book rambling this freely, it makes an intriguingly peculiar story. And there is much suspense invested in where all the lacunas in Towner's impressions will lead her."

This review wasn't that promising, but I have kept the book on my list none-the-less. After all, who can trust a NY Times review. ::wink::

What are some ways you research new reads? How do you choose what book to open?

Oh, and would you believe they even have book trailer's these days? (Oh the glories of modern technology)
